Before you say "yes" to another opportunity, take a minute to reflect with these 4 questions in order to build a more fulfilling career.

Two business men shaking hands in an office
  1. What do you want your days to look like?

Forget the job title for a sec.

What are you doing for most of the day?

Research? Education? Managing people and projects? Outplanting corals?

What kind of people do you want to work with?

  1. What problems do you want to solve?

What makes you want to roll up your sleeves and figure something out?

Improving coral survival rates?

Coordinating multi-organizational efforts?

Inspiring people to care about coral reefs?

  1. What else does your career make possible?

Your career is only PART of your life.

So what do you want it to provide?

  • The ability to travel

  • Stability

  • Flexibility

  • Community

  • Intellectual challenge

  • Balance

  1. What would make you look back and think, “I’m glad I did this”?

Regardless of the outcome, what would make you proud that you attempted or accomplished?

Is it the work itself?

Or the friends you made along the way?

How these 4 questions help you build a more fulfilling career?

Even if you don’t know what your “dream job” is, it’s important to have direction.

I hope this reflection helped you tie your interests to your values.

Because once you know what is fulfilling to you, you can make decisions about what to do today.

This is what we do on Day 1 of Coral Career Kickstart, the free 7-day challenge that helps you build the strategy, habits, and confidence needed to navigate a successful career in coral reef restoration.
